FAQ
What is different about goat's milk soap?
In Basilwood, all of our goat-milk soaps are made using the fresh raw milk we get from our herd of dairy goats who are hand-milked daily on our five-acre farm. There is approximately 20% of this milk in every bar of soap (no water), and the best all-natural oils and butters. Nothing is made from ingredients we cannot pronounce. Bathing with one of these soaps is more like a daily spa treatment because of the extreme moisturizing benefits of goat milk and the natural alpha-hydroxy acids which aid in sloughing off dead skin cells and promoting new cell growth. Goat’s milks is especially known for helping reduce the presence of eczema and psoriasis. We were truly shocked at the lack of dryness and reduction in all things rash-y or blemish-y when we began using it. All of our soaps are handmade using the cold-process method (literally from scratch), and take anywhere from 4-6 weeks to cure.
Which soaps are good for eczema or psoriasis?
Every single one of them. It’s really about the milk. Goat’s milk is especially known for helping reduce the presence of eczema and psoriasis. And since we use 100% whole milk, you get the full benefit of its moisturizing power. Goat’s milk is naturally fortified with Vitamin A, D & E which aid in psoriasis and eczema relief. Many of our customers who have suffered for years have seen great improvement or elimination of these conditions. In addition, the vitamins and minerals from our whole, raw milk help reduce fine lines and wrinkles and control acne. The cream in the milk helps to boost the moisturizing power of the soap, so skin doesn’t dry out like it does with most commercially made soaps. Keeping skin naturally moisturized helps to keep it healthy too.
Do you really make all of this soap?
Yes, we really do. We make all of our skin care products here at the farm. We do sell a few things, such as shaving brushes, soap dishes and other accessory items that are purchased from local artisans and suppliers.
Do you really have your own goats?
Yes, we do. Currently there are 14 members of the herd. They all have names and collars and are a part of our family.
Do you offer field trips?
We sure do. Field trips can be scheduled by contacting us via email at basilwoodfarm@gmail.com. Cost per participant is $7-$10 depending on the type/duration of tour for your group.
Is the farm open to the public?
Our Farm Store is located in Prather, California, just northeast of Fresno/Clovis off of Highway 168 in the Sierra Nevada foothills. We are open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 10-2 and Saturdays from 10-3. Guests are welcome to visit the chickens who will be milling about and see the goats who contribute to our products. Look for our posts regarding our quarterly Bubbles Bashes where we give special guided tours of The Soap Room as well. If you have a group or would like to arrange a special tour email us at basilwoodfarm@gmail.com. These tours are $7 per person. Outside of the Farm Store, we have several retailers who carry our products. See our Retailers page for the one nearest you.
What do you use to make your soap?
Goat’s Milk, all natural oils and butters (olive, coconut, sustainable palm, castor, sweet almond, jojoba, argan, avocado, and mango, coffee, cocoa, kokum butters… to name a few). In addition, we use several luxury oils, clays, botanicals and exfoliants for specific uses, such as anti-aging, dryness, acne. We don’t just use things because they may be the latest fad, but because they will actually do something for you.
Do you use your own products?
Absolutely! And so does the rest of The Team! That’s how we got started, actually. We wanted to make purer, more wholesome products we could use for ourselves and our family and not worry about what was going into them and what we were slathering all over ourselves every day.
